Do companies like coca-cola pay supermarkets to put their products on shelves?

Yes, stores pay for placement, which is why bigger names are at eye level, and off brands, or inexpensive brands like (for instance) Malt-O-Meal cereal are on the bottom shelf. i don't know about the music thing. I've always assumed it was to keep old guys like me out of the cool stores.
